When we can't help
We're an online service. Some things need to be seen in person — and we'd always rather tell you that than proceed when it isn't safe.
Medical emergency
Sudden swelling of the tongue or throat, difficulty breathing, or symptoms of anaphylaxis are a medical emergency. Call 999.
We can't assess or manage
- New, changing, bleeding or unusual moles and pigmented lesions
- Any lesion where skin cancer needs to be ruled out
- Undiagnosed rashes that need physical examination or investigation
- Severe, blistering or rapidly spreading skin conditions
- Skin problems alongside fever or feeling seriously unwell
- Dermatological emergencies of any kind
Where to go instead
- Life-threatening symptoms — call 999 or go to A&E
- Urgent but not an emergency — contact your GP, an NHS walk-in or urgent care centre, or call NHS 111
- A mole or lesion that needs checking — see your GP, who can refer you to NHS dermatology
- Routine NHS dermatology care — ask your GP for a referral
If you send us an enquiry and it's something we can't safely manage, we'll tell you clearly and point you to the right service.
